Beware of Breeder Scams

When I set out to find my first Ragdoll, I encountered a scammer who took my deposit after I wired the money to him. He was incredibly convincing! He provided pictures of his TICA breeder registration, adorable photos of the kitten, and even offered advice on the best type of food and how to care for my new kitten. He also suggested that I arrange transportation through him to bring my kitten from Florida to Sugar Land for an additional fee.

Fortunately, after discussing it with my daughter, she recommended that I request a FaceTime call or a video of the breeder holding the kitten I had picked out online. Once I made the request, the man became impatient and aggressive, which alerted me to the fact that I was likely a victim of a scam. And I was!

Determined to protect myself and others, I began researching breeder scams and was astounded by the sheer number of fraudulent websites out there. I found several informative websites that listed these scams, which was incredibly helpful! Remember, it's crucial to do your due diligence when looking for a reputable breeder.

Additionaly, I would highly suggest requesting proof of health certifications, vaccination records, and registration papers before making any payments. Genuine breeders are usually happy to provide such documentation, which can help you confirm the health status and legitimacy of the kitten. In social media, looking for reviews from real people is important. The more reviews you find, the clearer the picture will be. Reviews can provide valuable insights into a breeder’s reputation, the health and temperament of their animals, and the overall adoption process.
