Ragdoll & Cherubim Colors and Patterns Defined

A Ragdoll cat is classified using 3 words:

COLOR, POINT/NON-POINT, & PATTERN.

First, we name the Color.
Second, we look to see if there are any colored Points.
Third, we say mink/sepia/solid, (if the cat is a Cherubim)
Then, we say the Pattern.

For example- Seal Point Mitted. Blue Point Bicolor. Lilac Cream Point.

Ragdoll Patterns

  • Color Point: no white, color point is on their face, ears, tail, legs, and some body shading

  • Mitted: white paws, white chin, white belly stripe with color point on face, ears, tail, and legs (above the white paws)

  • Bicolor variations:

    • High-Mitted: mostly white with an inverted “V” mask on face and color point on ears and tail, back pad, and may have some color or spots on their feet / legs

    • True Bi-Color: mostly white with an inverted “V” mask on face and color point on ears and tail, and back pad

    • Mid-High White: mostly white with an inverted “V” mask and color point on ears and tail, a spotted or pony pattern back pad that features more white

    • Van: the most white with an inverted “V” mask on face, but usually it’s higher on the head / face and color point on ears and tail, their entire back is pure or near-pure white; this pattern is the highest white possible for Ragdolls

Traditional Ragdoll Colors

The six traditional colors of Ragdoll cats are seal, chocolate, red, blue, lilac, and cream

  • Seal: A deep, cool-toned brown

  • Blue: A steel gray, which is a dilute of seal

  • Flame/Red: An orange color

  • Cream: A light orange, which is a dilute of flame

  • Chocolate: A light brown or milk chocolate color

  • Lilac: A lighter, warmer gray, which is a dilute of chocolate

Ragdoll kittens are born white and develop their color over the first two weeks. They usually have good color by 8–10 weeks and a full coat and color by 3–4 years.

Ragdoll cats also come in tortoiseshell and lynx variations, and have three different patterns: pointed, mitted, and bicolor. The rarest traditional color is lilac. Cinnamon and fawn are also very rare colors.

Cherubim Colors

What truly sets Cherubim cats apart is their variety of colors and patterns. Unlike pointed Ragdolls, Cherubims come in three distinct colors: Mink, Sepia, and Solid.

Unlike traditional Ragdoll cats that exclusively have blue eyes, Cherubim cats display different eye colors based on their coat type:

Mink: Blue-Green to Green-Blue (Aqua),

Sepia: Gold, Gold-Green (Chartreuse), or Green

Solid: Bronze, Copper, Gold, Yellow, Green, or Hazel.

Starting May 1st, 2025 all Mink, Sepia, and Solid TICA registered kittens will be Cherubim as part of the Ragdoll breed group.
